Our Journey & Craftsmanship

Founded by craftsman Michael Hollidge, we create bespoke rocking chairs designed to offer deep comfort, therapeutic relief, and heirloom quality to last for generations.

Our foundational journey began with a traditional apprenticeship in North Queensland. Fuelled by a passion for the trade, Michael travelled throughout Australia and overseas, studying the time-honoured methods of European, British, and Asian craftsmen.

This deep appreciation for fine, intentional handiwork was further refined working alongside his father, David Hollidge. A renowned timber craftsman on New Zealand’s South Island, David spent his life building furniture, boats, and bows. Working in his father’s workshop and mastering his techniques allowed Michael to evolve our signature rocking chair.

We believe that diamonds are not rare in the universe but premium, aged timber is. Because of this, our materials are selected with absolute care.

Sustainably Sourced

We utilise both local and imported premium timbers that have been carefully aged.

We source premium, hard-to-find timber dimensions critical for executing complex compound curves.

Strength, stability, and specific grain features are evaluated to ensure every piece functions flawlessly under pressure.

A West End Rocker is more than a piece of furniture. It is an ergonomic instrument designed for prolonged sitting. Every curve and angle has been evolved mathematically to maximise relief and ease of use, particularly for the aged, infirm, those recovering from injury or illness, and breastfeeding mothers.
